Some things just merit mentioning twice...

Be a part of the solution by joining the Book Launch or go to Ethics Trading

There is a small, but growing group of independent authors forming connections through the wonderful world of the internet. A short while ago, when the news and images of the Japanese earthquake found its way into our homes, we watched bodies being recovered. We watched homes being swept away. Some of us shed tears, some were stunned, but we all wanted to do *something*, anything, something.... We wanted to reach out, to help.

But we're not wealthy, we're not trained in search, rescue or other emergency services. We have families and jobs that we can't just leave...

But we can write.
We are a group of talented writers and some of us have donated our words, some have donated time, some have donated editing skills, and we are pulling together an ebook of our work. While doing this we realised that although Japan was the trigger and the inspiration, we wanted to establish an ongoing project to aid disaster relief and aid across the globe - so proceeds from sales of this project will be offered to Medecins Sans Frontieres, (Doctors Without Borders) to support the work they do.

"With Love" is an anthology of an eclectic mix of short stories and will be released through Amazon Kindle and through Smashwords in all ebook formats, by March 25th.

After that, who knows... There are murmurings about a second volume and then possibly more.

The With Love Project began as an idea, squeaked out by a mouse of a voice into a cavern of warm hearts and listening ears. The idea was inspired by the events in Japan but has grown from there. All of the work for the book has been done for free to help Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) address various crisis situations around the world. All of the money generated from the sales of this book will provide for the people, families and needs of the individuals these doctors touch each day. The book has been released in record time.

Without the help of some incredible people, this would not have been possible. Starting with the cover, Chris Murphy on twitter @ChrisTheJeweler donated the incredible art. His photograph was taken from a collection you are able to locate here: http://christhejeweler.deviantart.com/gallery/. His generous gift was then forwarded to Jason Dodge on twitter @JasonEdits who did the work that turned the photograph into a cover for the book. His editing services and cover work can be obtained by contacting him at PJasonDodge@Gmail.com. With the help of these two kind hearted men, the book has a face to show the world.

The authors who have created the pages are all independent writers building a career with their artistic ability. Each of the incredible and vivid short stories within these pages are donated. The authors took time from their current projects to help others in need. Each person, story and life affected by tragedy around the world, moved these writers to action. What you have purchased is the love of these writers and the creative spirit they share and will continue to share to help others. It is our hope and goal that you will find each of the stories as incredible and interesting as the people who wrote them. Together, all of us are united for the cause of humanity and supporting others around the world. Although I was the first person to voice the idea, it was the warm reception by those involved that made it possible. Thank you for your purchase and thank you for helping the wonderful work being done by Medecins Sans Frontieres.

I hope you find the book as enjoyable to read as I did to help pull together.

#Sample Sunday - "Sweep Him Off His Feet Berries and Brownie Sundae"

This week for Sample Sunday we decided to do something different.  Instead of offering an excerpt from the featured book, we thought it would be fun to offer a new piece of short fiction by using our characters to create a scenario where they will dish up their favorite meals and desserts.  Hope you enjoy my version.  It was fun.

"SWEEP HIM OFF HIS FEET BERRIES AND BROWNIE SUNDAE"

Joy knew she and Gabe needed more alone time together, but she missed her son.  He was only 5 months old, but the bond she had with him was unbreakable.  Because of the childhood she had, she promised that she would never allow the same things to happen to him.  Which the family had determined was bordering on obsessive.  Hence, the need for Annette, her beloved sister-in-law to insist that she and Gabe spend some time together and she would babysit for the night...also allowing Gabe, Jr. the time he needed to become more acquainted with his older, doting cousins.

Gabe could sense the apprehension in his wife as they stood in the doorway and watched as Annette drove away with a cooing Gabe, Jr.  He knew they were doing the right thing.  He missed his time with his wife.  He adored his little clone, but his relationship with Joy was suffering from her obsessive behavior.  It was as though he could see the fear building inside of her...a fear of loss.

Gabe hugged Joy tighter to his body as they watched the car disappear out of sight.  Immediately his thoughts went back to how much fun they used to have together.  But now Joy seemed to be reverting back to her pensive, more serious side.  A side to her that he loved, but knew would become a hinderance if he allowed her old fears to resurface and consume their lives.

"Let's go inside," he prodded, pulling Joy along with him as he went back into the house.  "So Mrs. Hawthorne, we have the whole night to ourselves, what do you want to do?"  He gave her a sensual grin.  His thoughts of what they could do written all over his face.

Joy couldn't help but smile up at him.  She loved Gabe.  In a sense, he had become her salvation.  He had given her a true reason to live...truly live and not just exist.  He had given her the greatest gift a person could give another.  He had given her his heart.  "What do you have in mind?"  Joy asked.

Gabe pulled Joy into his arms and gave her a smoldering kiss that still had the same potent affect on her, making her feel weak and quivery inside.  "We can stay in and enjoy the quiet," he replied.

"But it's the quiet that's so unsettling," Joy admitted.  "Why don't we go out?  Maybe dinner and dancing.  What do you think?  If we're going to take advantage of our time alone, we may as well do something we never do."

Gabe let out a bark of laughter.  "Dancing?  I thought you found out on our wedding day that I'm no good at it.  I've trod on your feet enough for you to never want to dance with me again," he continued to laugh and shook his head.

"Well, you're right about that.  I had forgotten," she joined in the laughter.  "We can stay home and prepare a romantic dinner for two.  What say you?"

"Deal.  But it's a known fact that I did not marry you for your cooking, so how about I make the dinner and you can be my little helper," Gabe teased as he tweaked Joy's nose.

"I'll agree if you let me make the dessert.  I do have some talents in the kitchen, you know."

"Dessert, huh?  Is that you served up on a platter for my enjoyment?" he teased.  A smoky glean came to his eyes.

Joy swatted him on the arm.  "No...well, maybe if you're a good boy.  But I meant a favorite dessert my aunt used to make for me when I was just a little girl to cheer me up.  Since I seem to be in the mood for cheering up, I think it's appropriate."

"What is it?" Gabe's interest was piqued.

"It's a surprise.  And don't worry, you'll like it.  No, you'll love it."

The act of cooking turned out to be a sheer act of will of restraint as Gabe and Joy discovered that it was more difficult to savor each other's company and resisting the urge to romp in the kitchen and to forego dinner and dessert altogether.  Yet they both knew that later that night would be a time to lose control and the thought was enough to sustain them as the sexual tension slowly built to a fever pitch.

Joy was impressed with the meal that Gabe had prepared.  He had always been the one that cooked their meals, but he had surpassed his previous efforts tonight.  He had truly made this a special meal for two.  Joy contained herself from overstuffing, leaving room for dessert...and of course working off the added calories later that night.

"You have out-done yourself tonight," Joy praised Gabe as they cleared the table.  I have never had Shrimp Scampi prepared that way before.  I'm glad I decided to marry you," Joy teased.

"They do say a way to a woman's heart is through her palate," he joked.

"They do, do they?  Well, THEY are correct.  You have definitely got my palate singing."

The easy banter continued for a while longer as they cuddled on the sofa and chatted and laughed, savoring their time together.  Joy had to admit, this was a great idea for them to spend some time alone.  It wasn't until this moment that she realized how much she had neglected Gabe.  Inwardly, she vowed that she would never allow herself to lose sight of their love for each other again.  There was enough love in her heart for Gabe and Gabe Jr.  and more, if it ever came to that.

"I'm ready for that dessert you prepared.  How about you?  Did you save enough room?"  Gabe asked as he nudged Joy up and rose from the couch.  "I can't wait any longer to find out what it is."  Gabe took Joy's hand in his and lead her into the kitchen.  "Unless you want to skip dessert," he grinned again.

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?  You don't trust me?  I can make a decent dessert," she laughed.

Gabe sat at the breakfast nook as Joy prepared her signature dessert.  He had to admit that you can't go wrong with fruit, brownies and whipped cream.  But it wasn't an observation he was willing to admit out loud.  Instead, he waited patiently as she placed his bowl in front of him, a pleasant smile on her face as she waited for him to take his first bite.  She waited, gauging his pleasure by the surprised, yet pleased expression on his face.  His eyes lit up and his smile was contagious.

"You like it?" she asked.  In a child-like manner Joy beamed at him, giddy from his simple pleasure of enjoying her favorite dessert.  A dessert she had always wanted to share with him.

"Like it, I love it.  You have redeemed yourself Mrs. Hawthorne.  Never will I ever say a thing about your abilities in the kitchen," he laughed as he put another heaping spoonful in his mouth.

Joy brought her bowl over to where he was sitting and sat next to him.  The first bite was always the best.  She moaned at the decadence..."Ummmm"

"What do you call this?  Orgasmic Brownies?"

"No, but not a bad name.  It's called "Sweep him off his feet Sundae," she admitted.  A blush heated her cheeks as she remembered why she and her aunt had come up with the name.  It was during a time when she wanted to get Gabe's attention.  Her aunt suggested she bring over a bowl to him.  But Joy was too shy and didn't dare.

Gabe cleared his bowl quickly, licking the rest of the whipped cream from his spoon in a slow, seductive motion.  His eyes never leaving Joy.  "So, what are your plans for the rest of this?" he asked as he picked up the whipped cream container.

Joy placed her spoon in the bowl, took the container from Gabe and took him by the hand.  Gabe stood and silently followed his wife through the house to their bedroom.

"This is the real dessert," Joy said as she began unbuttoning Gabe's shirt and pushed him down on the bed.

Thank you for your purchase and thank you for helping the wonderful work being done by Medecins Sans Frontieres.

I hope you find the book as enjoyable to read as I did to help pull together.

When you read...do you review?

So, I've sold a modest amount of books.  Nothing to brag home about, mind you, but nothing to sneeze at either.  But I've only received a handful of reviews.  Which makes me wonder...

Does the "average" reader give reviews.  If so, what compels them?  Is it that the book is sooo good they want to tell the world, or is it because it's sooo bad they want to warn people away?  I consider myself an avid reader.  It's no secret, I read an average 2-3 books a week.  It's an addiction, I know.  But I have yet to give a formal review.  And I can't tell you why.  Maybe after I read it I'm on to something else...or maybe I'm just plain ole lazy and I don't feel like it.

Yet, as a writer you'll always get the occasional post or personal message from a reader telling you how much they enjoyed your book and you want to scream, "Go tell it on the mountain!  Write a review!"  But instead you thank them kindly and press your lips together trying to prevent the crass words from spilling from your lips.  I mean, after all we don't carry around a sign that reads, "Will write for reviews."

But you'll get conflicting opinions from writers about reviews.  You'll hear some say, "...you shouldn't pay attention to them, they don't validate you...you can't please everyone so don't put too much stock in them."  Things we say to ourselves as a protective mechanism from getting our feelings hurt when someone tells us that our book ~sucks.~  Yet we seem to scream from the rooftops when we get a glowing review.  So in a small way, it does matter.

I know I'm rambling, just thinking out loud.  I said all of that to ask this one question:  What makes you want to review a book that you've read?

LET'S GET THIS WEEKEND STARTED!!!

\

I gave this a lot of thought.  Hmmm...What to do on Friday?  Some things have already been done, like "No Pants Friday" or "Freaky Friday" or...You get the point.  Besides, you don't want to see any of us traipsing around in our "Birthday" suit.  That could be...plain 'ole <ug-ah-lee>.

So I decided that I'll declare Friday at IAU, "Fun or WTF Friday."  This is the day where there's no holds barred ~in all fun and games, of course.~  This isn't a brawlfest or a bitch session, this is a day to share a joke or a strange, bizarre tale or tell us what you're planning for the weekend or cool places to visit, great ebooks to read, etc.

Today is a "No Work Day" and we want you to kick back, grab a glass or bottle of your favorite beverage and mingle.  If a fight should break out, my bouncer ~pointing to huge, bulking man in the corner~ Guido will not so kindly toss you out on your arse.

So I'll start.  I'm not going to read.  I'm not going to write.  I'm going to kick back with my glass of wine and make as much noise as I possibly can.  BTW, I like being annoying at times.  If you don't believe me, click on the link below.  Now, what are you doing?

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

GO GREEN
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, IAU asks that you do your part in saving the planet.  How do you do this?  Buy an ebook and plant a tree.  You can start by visiting the IAU Bookshelf.

And don't drink too much green beer.
HAPPY READING...

A GREAT IRISH JOKE!!!
A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink.

"Why of course," comes the reply.

The first man then asks: "Where are you from?"

"I'm from Ireland," replies the second man.

The first man responds: "You don't say, I'm from Ireland too! Let's have another round to Ireland."
"Of Course," replies the second man.

Curious, the first man then asks: "Where in Ireland are you from?"
"Dublin," comes the reply.
"I can't believe it," says the first man.
"I'm from Dublin too! Let's have another drink to Dublin."
"Of course," replies the second man.

Curiosity again strikes and the first man asks:
"What school did you go to?"
"Saint Mary's," replies the second man.
"I graduated in '62."

"This is unbelievable!" the first man says.
"I went to Saint Mary's and I graduated in '62, too!"

About that time in comes one of the regulars and sits down at the bar.
"What's been going on?" he asks the bartender.

"Nothing much," replies the bartender. "The O'Malley twins are drunk again."
